Microfinance Conference
Microfinance Conference was organized on March 4, 2010, by the Croatian Bank for Reconstruction and Development (HBOR) in order to promote the importance of support to small companies and craftsmen.
The Conference was attended by the representatives of commercial banks, development agencies, ministries and other government agencies dealing with the issues of small and medium entrepreneurship.
The framework of the conference was the global and European experience in micro-financing. Some of the topics were: incentive systems, sources of finance, the role of commercial banks, funds and agencies in the Republic of Croatia, as well as the obstacles small and medium-sized companies are confronted with and their experience in micro-lending.

Background
The International Conference is organised as a part of the project Ljubljana Agenda for the New Phase of the Stabilization and Association Process, which represents a continuation of the activities initiated by the successful implementation of the project Regional Framework for Development and European Integration in 2007 by a network of think-tanks from South East Europe (SEE).
Conference Aims
The international conference Lisbon Agenda for South East Europe aims to launch a debate on: how do countries of the South East Europe perceive their potential for growth and jobs and what does the extension of the Lisbon Strategy mean for the South Eastern European countries. The discussion will focus on human capital development and the labour market. The Conference will also serve as a starting point for further discussion of reform agendas in the region and their importance for growth and development in the SEE, from the point of view of the clearer EU perspective for these countries.

On July 13, SMEs and Entrepreneurship Policy Center - CEPOR held a press briefing on the topic of
FLEXICURITY
at the premises of the Institute of Economics. Sanja Crnković Pozaić, Director of CEPOR, briefed journalists on the situation in the Croatian labour market from the standpoint of flexibility and security and on principles of European Union policy on flexicurity, which will become binding for Croatia in the forthcoming period.
Views of the unions and employers were presented by Krešimir Sever from the Independent Trade Unions of Croatia and Jelena Katić from the Croatian Employers' Association. Both representatives of social partners agreed that it is necessary to open both the topics of flexibility and security, and have announced a discussion on them, which will culminate in a conference in September of this year.

On June 26, CEPOR organized a round table on the subject of: "The Role of Venture Capital Funds in the Development of Croatian Economy" at the premises of the Institute of Economics.
Speakers at the round table were Dr. Ante Čičin-Šain, former Director of the Copernicus fund and the first Governor of the National Bank of Croatia, Dr. Sandra Švaljek, Director of the Institute of Economics, Ante Mamić, VENCRO Program Manager, Borislav Škegro, Chairman of the Board of the Quaestus fund, Jonathan Cooper, Director of the Poteza Ventures fund, and Slobodan Mikac, Managing Director of the Trade and Investment Promotion Agency. Event was moderated by Sanja Crnković Pozaić, Director of CEPOR.

On April 23, 2007 at the University of Rijeka, Faculty of Economics, Professor Slavica Singer held a workshop titled: Knowledge, Innovations, Growth - Formula for Entrepreneurial Success, which is a part of the "Croatian Small Business and EU Challenge: danger or hope?" project, financed by the European Commission. Professor Slavica Singer is UNESCO Chair for Entrepreneurship. Besides Rijeka, public forums will be held in Čakovec, Osijek, Šibenik and Zagreb.

On March 29, 2007, City of Bjelovar and SMEs and Entrepreneurship Policy Center (CEPOR) signed the Agreement on cooperation in promoting entrepreneurial skills in vocational schools of the City of Bjelovar, within the project "Promoting Entrepreneurial Skills in Vocational Schools: Preparation for the Labour Market", which was awarded a grant from the European Commission within the "Upgrading of Vocational Education and Training Schools" program, CARDS 2003.
Agreement was signed by Mayor Đurđa Adlešić on behalf of the City of Bjelovar and Director Sanja Crnković Pozaić on behalf of CEPOR. Also present at the signing of the Agreement was Želimir Janjić, State Secretary of the Ministry of Science, Education and Sports.

At the 3rd Congress of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises, which will be held in Opatija on March 23, 2007, organized by the Croatian Employers' Association and the Ministry of Economy, Labour and Entrepreneurship, Professor Slavica Singer will present What makes Croatian an Entrepreneurial Country? Results of GEM 2006 for Croatia, and will moderate the Sources of Financing for Entrepreneurs workshop.

At the round table on the methodology of research of future needs at the labour market that was held at the Central Office of the University in Zagreb, Sanja Crnković Pozaić held a presentation titled Anticipating the knowledge and skills needed for the development of competitiveness.

On February 2, 2007, at the University of J.J. Strossmayer of Osijek, Faculty of Economics in Osijek, SMEs and Entrepreneurship Policy Center – CEPOR organized a round table: The Challenges in Development of Entrepreneurship in Agriculture: Risk, Uncertainty and Business Decision-making.
In the process of accession to the European Union, efficient risk management is one of the significant prerequisites for competitiveness of Croatian economy, stabilization of income of agricultural farms and their sustainability, and, ultimately, the development of rural areas.
